“Vessels”
Iteration 1
Premiered December 2023, as part of Fertile Ground at Greenspace Arts Incubator, Queens NY
Music: Aphex Twin, Quino Phec
Costumes: Chloe Sonnet Brown
Vessels was made in collaboration with dancer and visual artist Kierra Nguyen. This work is an exploration of the similarities in physicality between dancing and sculpting. Inspired by my own ceramics practice, I was interested in the metaphor that clay holds: the act of god-like creation in the way hands can mold and form, the sculpting process revealing a new form like birth. There is also a deeply human, fundamental element to pottery and dance that we worked to combine into a narrative of self-creation.
"Terra: We have not yet touched the stars”
Premiered March 2024, created in collaboration with visual artists Cadence Giersbach for Norte Maar’s Counterpointe 11 at Mark O’ Donell Theatre, Brooklyn NY
Music: Bian Eno, Harold Budd
Dancers: Arimee Gambill and Oliva Passereli
Costumes: Chloe Sonnet Brown in collaboration with the dancers
“Terra” is a contemporary ballet inspecting the complicated ways humans relate to their natural environment. We identified the duality that exists in how humans inherently love and need nature, and yet in our desire to progress societally, we destroy it. The stars are the ultimate symbol of advancement- when we reach the stars, does this mean we are done with Earth?
